The 2014 FIBA World Cup starts on Aug. 30 and at least one high-profile NBA player has already withdrawn his name from consideration for the final roster. Blake Griffin announced Thursday that he would not be attending camp with Team USA as he concentrates on preparation for the upcoming 2014-15 NBA season.

The World Championships have a new name as a fresh crop of NBA veterans try to bring home top honors in Spain.

Meanwhile, Washington Wizards guard John Wall has accepted an invite to camp next week in Las Vegas as coach Mike Krzyzewski tries to shore up the 12-man roster before the team heads to Spain. With Griffin out of the picture and Wall added, the group of 19 players now looks like this, according to the USA Basketball website:

There is also a roster made mostly of young players and rookies called USA Basketball Select that will train with Team USA from July 28-31. It includes players like Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green, Doug McDermott, Victor Oladipo and Marcus Smart.
The FIBA World Cup works much in the same way as the FIFA World Cup, with teams placed into groups after qualifying. There are four groups of six teams each, and teams play a series of round robin-style matchups where a win is worth two points and a loss is worth just one. The teams in each group play each other just once, with the top four teams advancing to a 16-team bracket that ends on Sept. 14.
Team USA is in Group C along with Dominican Republic, Finland, Ukraine, Turkey and New Zealand. The full list of groups and information about the tournament can be found below.
