UPDATE, 8/20 7:03 p.m.: Derrick Rose will sit out of Team USA’s exhibition game vs. the Dominican Republic, taking an extra day to rest after feeling knee soreness, reports NBA.com’s John Schumann.

Derrick Rose was considered a game-time decision for Wednesday night’s USA Basketball exhibition game against the Dominican Republic in Madison Square Garden. Rose had sat out the last two days of practice with soreness in his knee following his return to game action in Saturday’s exhibition victory over Brazil in Chicago.

Rose missed the entire 2012-13 season while recovering from a torn ACL and only played 10 games for the Chicago Bulls last season before suffering a torn meniscus on Nov. 22 in Portland. Rose played 24 minutes against Brazil as the starting point guard for Team USA, scoring seven points and adding four rebounds and two assists.

Soreness is part of the recovery process for a player returning from knee surgery, so Rose's status shouldn't send anyone into panic mode. Team USA will have more than enough in the backcourt should he miss the game against the Dominican Republic. Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry and Damian Lillard are all fighting to make the team before Mike Krzyzewski has to submit his final roster ahead of the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
