Former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has a history of racism, and his racist comments taped by an ex-girlfriend ultimately led to his ouster from the NBA. But even after it appeared this entire situation was wrapped up when Donald's wife Shelly Sterling sold the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, the story refuses to die.
Shelly Sterling says Donald ‘doesn’t make racist comments’
Shelly Sterling defended her estranged husband and disgraced former Clippers owner in a recent interview.

Shelly recently sat down with Linda Deutsch of the Associated Press to discuss the sale to Ballmer. During the interview, Shelly felt the need to defend her estranged husband by saying Donald “doesn’t make racist comments”:
Shelly said she didn’t understand how V. Stiviano, the woman who recorded the racist comments, was able to bait Donald into saying what he did. Shelly thinks what happened was just “unfortunate”:
“I think it was very unfortunate that she would have done what she did,” Sterling said, adding: “She ruined our lives for our whole family.”
Shelly wasn’t done defending Donald, saying he has apologized to her for calling her a “pig” in court and that the two are now on better terms:
These days, she said, “We’re on better terms. We try not to talk about the case. We have a business together so we have to talk.”
Asked about his mental condition, she said, “He’s been a little better, a little sweeter and softer. Losing the team he loved was very hard on him,” she said. “But I’ll always feel it’s our team.”
That last part can’t sit too well with many, as most people don’t want Donald associated with the Clippers anymore, in any context. Shelly can call herself “Clippers No. 1 Fan” all she wants, but she certainly won’t have many (or any) fans if she continues to defend her disgraced husband.
