USA Basketball has begun trimming down its roster ahead of the 2014 FIBA World Cup, which will begin later this month in Spain. The first three players to be cut from the roster were John Wall and Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards and Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski still has four more cuts to make.

The final 12-man roster for Team USA is due by Aug. 29, but it’s likely the squad will be set by Aug. 23 when Coach K’s team leaves for Spain. Team USA must now make four more cuts following the horrific leg injury Paul George sustained in Friday’s scrimmage and the three cuts that came down on Monday.
Despite the shock of watching George’s injury, ESPN reported the players in training camp in Las Vegas remain committed to USA Basketball. Team USA will play its first exhibition game in Chicago on Aug. 16 against Brazil.
Kevin Durant is expected to lead a squad that won the gold at the World Championships in 2010. Spain, the host country, will likely be United States’ biggest competition. Team USA knocked off Spain in the gold medal game during the 2012 Summer Olympics by a score of 107-100.
