FIBA World Cup 2014 schedule: United States to play Dominican Republic

There are just two days left of group play in 2014 FIBA World Cup and points remain a premium. Four teams are 3-0 and are in good position to advance into the next round. A few others have a pair of wins and are near the top of their group standings. With each team having two games left, however, every team is still alive. That could change on Wednesday when the entire field is in action.

The United States is one of four undefeated teams heading into the fourth game of group play. Turkey gave Team USA a very strong half, but outside of that the United States has looked like the class of the tournament. Next up for the American squad is a matchup with the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic knocked off Finland 74-68 on Tuesday for its second win of the competition. With five points, it is currently tied for second in Group C with Turkey and Finland both lurking at four points. Houston’s Francisco Garcia leads the way for the Dominican Republic, averaging 21.0 points per game. The game will be a rematch from a pre-tournament exhibition. The United States won that game going away, 105-62.

The stakes will be high in Group A with group-leading Spain taking on France. Spain is 3-0 while France, Serbia and Brazil are 2-1. Serbia and Brazil will also play, meaning Spain will need a win to avoid dropping to third place in the group. There will be a similar situation in Group B with 3-0 Greece playing 2-1 Croatia while 2-1 Argentina plays 2-1 Senegal.
