As for what we're doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that LeBron James is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap and get stuck praying to the basketball gods that a guy like Kosta Koufos gets into the game. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Also, this space is going to be used to give you advice for the games on Tues., Nov 10. So, with that, let's get started.
3 players to target
Kevin Durant, SF, Thunder ($10,400): This is what you call a bad matchup -- Kevin Durant, a man averaging 30 points per game, against a Wizards team allowing a league-high 46.1 FanDuel points per game to opposing small forwards. We also know KD will be up for OKC's Tuesday night game in his hometown of DC. That the Wizards are playing fast this year will only give Durant and the Thunder more possessions to work with.
Goran Dragic, PG, Heat ($5,800): Dragic has struggled thus far this season, averaging just 11 points and 4.1 assists per game. But Tuesday the Heat welcome the hapless defense of the Lakers to Miami, a team surrendering an average of 45 FanDuel points to opposing point guards, the third-worst number in the league. Dragic's price has fallen, and for good reason. But Tuesday night he's the best buy-low candidate available.
Dirk Nowitzki, PF, Mavericks ($6,500): The Mavericks have the honor of taking on the Pelicans on Tuesday, a team surrendering a league high 111.9 points per 100 possessions. New Orleans' defense has been horrendous all season, and it hasn't show any signs of improving. Dirk might not be the player he once was. But he's still a brilliant all-time great, who knows how to pick apart a leaky D.
3 players to avoid
LeBron James, SF, Cavaliers ($10,000): Not as crazy as it seems. For one, LeBron is hobbled. He injured his thigh over the weekend and has told reporters that it's still sore. He said he plans on playing Tuesday against the Jazz, but he likely won't be 100 percent. Also, Cleveland is going up against Utah, owners of the NBA's top defensive rating.
Kemba Walker, PG, Hornets ($7,200): Walker's numbers are up this year. He's scoring 17 points per game, dishing out five assists and, most impressively, shooting 45 percent from the field. But on Tuesday the Hornets face the athletic and stingy Timberwolves defense, a unit holding opponents to 93.1 points per 100 possessions, the third-best number in the NBA. The Timberwolves are quick and long and don't give up easy points. That doesn't bode well for Walker.
Isaiah Thomas, PG, Celtics ($7,300): The Celtics take on the Bucks on Tuesday, one of the better NBA's defensive teams. Milwaukee is long and employs an aggressive swarming defense, one that is limiting opponents points guards to 35.1 FanDuel points per game, the third-lowest number in the NBA. The guess here is that Jason Kidd takes the ball out of Thomas' hands and makes sure his defense doesn't provide Thomas any space to operate.
The Timberwolves' exciting young roster is a great story, but be wary of using any Minnesota players on Tuesday. The team is on the second night of a back-to-back. ... The Jazz's defense is mentioned above. Because of their prowess of that end, you might want to avoid players like Kevin Love and Timofey Mozgov, as well. ... Kyle Lowry has been struggling of late, but the Knicks are still giving the slow-footed Jose Calderon minutes at point guard, which means Lowry should have plenty of clear paths to the lane. Look for a slight bump in his numbers Tuesday night.
