As for what we're doing in this space: The goal here will be to direct your attention toward some players who you might not otherwise consider. If you're here and reading this, then you already know that LeBron James is really good. But when filling out a roster you can't just pick out stars. You'll blow your cap and get stuck praying to the basketball gods that a guy like Kosta Koufos gets into the game. No, if you want to win, you have to take advantage of certain matchups -- and in order to do that you have to know where to look. That's what we're here for. Also, this space is going to be used to give you advice for the games on Tuesday, Nov 17. So, with that, let's get started.
3 players to target
Emmanuel Mudiay, PG, Nuggets ($5,900): Denver has the honor of facing the soft Pelicans' defense Tuesday night, which means you should be adding Nuggets to your lineups. New Orleans is last in the NBA in defensive rating (108.9) and is allowing opposing point guards to score 44.5 FanDuel points per game, the second-highest number in the league. That's what happens when half your roster has injury problems. Both these teams play at an above-average pace as well.
Greg Monroe, C, Bucks ($8,200): The Bucks have an interesting matchup Tuesday night. They face a Wizards team that is playing at the fastest pace in the NBA but struggling on the defensive end. Milwaukee, on the other hand, is last in the NBA in pace. So how will the Bucks go about slowing down John Wall and the Wizards? One way would be to keep the game in the half-court and force feed the ball to Monroe. That Washington has struggled slowing down opposing big men makes this matchup even better.
Zach LaVine, PG, Timberwolves ($5,900): LaVine has been on fire of late as Ricky Rubio continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Rubio is questionable for Minnesota's Tuesday night game against the Heat, but even if he does suit up LaVine is still sure to see major minutes. He's also averaging 23.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists over his last five games.
3 players to avoid
Andre Drummond, C, Pistons ($9,800): Drummond has been a monster all season, but he has a tough matchup Tuesday against the Cavaliers. Cleveland is big and has multiple bodies it can throw at Drummond. There's a reason the team is limiting opposing centers to 39 FanDuel points per game. The Cavaliers are also one of the best defensive teams in the league and like to play at a slow pace.
John Wall, PG, Wizards ($9,200): No team defends the point guard position better than the Bucks. As mentioned above, Jason Kidd is an expert at preventing fast breaks, which Wall thrives on, and Milwaukee knows how to use all its length and quickness to close off the paint and prevent dribble penetration. If you're spending more than $9,000 on a player, you want it to be a sure thing. Wall on Tuesday night is not.
Hassan Whiteside, C, Heat ($8,300): Whiteside will have to go up against rookie sensation Karl-Anthony Towns on Tuesday, one of the few players in the league who can match his physical tools. KAT is big, long and athletic. The No. 1 overall pick and the rest of the Timberwolves are holding opposing centers to 39 FanDuel points per game.
The Pelicans' defense is mentioned above -- that makes Tuesday night the perfect time to go with Danilo Gallinari. ... He's ridiculously expensive, but at this point it might be hard to win without Stephen Curry in your lineup. The Warriors face the Raptors on Tuesday. ... Another Pistons player you want to stay away from: Reggie Jackson. Cleveland is going to take away Drummond and the team is also great at defending the pick-and-roll, Jackson's main weapon.
