Chris Paul leaves Clippers-Blazers game with rib muscle strain

Paul left in the third quarter and did not return to the court.

Chris Paul left the court in the third quarter of the Los Angeles Clippers' game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday with a rib muscle strain. He did not return to the court and was ruled out for the game, Dan Woike of the Orange County Register reported.

The severity of the injury was not reported. Paul has missed three games this season due to a strained groin, but this injury appeared to be unrelated.

Austin Rivers and Jamal Crawford will have to fill in if Paul is going to miss an extended period of time.

Paul, in his 11th season, is averaging 17.5 points and 8.4 assists per game. The Clippers have failed to live up to expectations so far this season. A win over the Blazers would improve the Clippers to 10-8, but for a team that was a win away from the Western Conference Finals, they have underachieved.

Things will not get any easier if Paul’s injury is serious.
