Brett Brown has agreed to a contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced. He is now under contract through the 2018-19 season, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Brown became the head coach of the 76ers in 2013, fully aware of the deep rebuilding effort the franchise was about to embark on under general manager Sam Hinkie. He has done a good job of getting his players to bring effort every night despite dreadful results and has rarely complained about the lack of talent on the roster. Under the circumstances, he has done as well as could be expected despite posting a 38-149 record.

“Brett has been everything we anticipated - and more - both as a basketball coach and a partner in building this program,” Hinkie said. “His tireless work ethic, his daily desire to consistently improve, and his resiliency line up with our core values as an organization. It was not difficult to come to the decision to formally say we want to work with Brett Brown even longer.”

The 76ers recently hired Jerry Colangelo to be Chairman of Basketball Operations, but their negotiations with Brown had started before that happened according to reports. The franchise seems committed to allowing the coach who was there when the rebuilding process started to be around when it hopefully starts to bare fruit.
