New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony said he's getting closer to shutting it down for the season after aggravating a left knee injury on Monday night, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Anthony aggravated a left knee injury on Monday, and he admitted he’s getting closer to shutting it down for the season.

Anthony limped to the locker room with 7:30 left of the Knicks' 109-95 loss to the Miami Heat after landing awkwardly on a jumper. Anthony started the game hot with 14 points in the first quarter, but he tailed off before leaving the game with 26 points.
Anthony has dealt with a balky left knee for much of the season, and he has admitted he’ll need surgery at some point. The belief is he has been trying to get through the All-Star break without surgery so he could participate in the All-Star Game in New York, but it’s unclear what this latest setback means for his availability in the game.
Even if Anthony plays in the All-Star Game, it’s unlikely he’ll go on much longer, based on his response to a question about shutting it down after the loss on Monday:
“Yeah because it’s the little things I’m doing on the court – I’m restricted, not getting that power or bounce,” Anthony said. “And to do something like I did today, I’m getting closer to that point.”
Anthony didn’t want to talk much about the All-Star Game, although he conceded “maybe” he would have undergone surgery already if the festivities weren’t in New York, according to ESPN’s Michael Wallace. That answer seems to validate the belief the Knicks star is just trying to make it through the All-Star break before going under the knife.
Anthony hasn't ruled himself out for the next game against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday, but expect him, and the Knicks, to play it safe heading into the All-Star break.
