Joe Johnson knows he’s involved in trade rumors

The Nets veteran gave the rare acknowledgement that his name is involved in trade talks.

You don't often hear an athlete acknowledge that he's involved in trade talks, but Brooklyn Nets swingman Joe Johnson did just that on Wednesday night, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Johnson said his agent confirmed to him that his name has come up in trade conversations: “The rumors are true. My name is out there.”

The Detroit Pistons have reportedly called the Nets about Johnsonbut Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily said earlier Wednesday evening that there was "nothing" to the rumor.

Johnson, 33, is in the second-to-last year of the six-year deal he signed with the Atlanta Hawks in 2010. The veteran will make $23.2 million this season and is owed $24.9 million next year.

Brooklyn has been a disappointment this season, but Johnson has had another solid campaign. He’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists while playing 35.6 minutes per game on the year.

While Johnson has had a stellar individual year, he admitted that “it’s been kind of different” because of the trade rumors, according to Tim Bontemps of the New York Post.

Even with these rumors swirling and Johnson’s rare acknowledgment of them, a trade still looks like a long shot.
