Miami Heat big man Chris Bosh will be shut down for the rest of the 2014-15 season after doctors confirmed a blood clot had been discovered in his lung, the team announced Saturday.

Bosh was admitted to the hospital Thursday after dealing with minor chest paints, but initial tests on the area were inconclusive. Doctors suspected Bosh had a blood clot in his lung, and confirmed the diagnosis Saturday after further testing.
Prior to the announcement, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra spoke to reporters about the situation Friday, saying the team would wait for an official diagnosis before making a statement. However, he did add that, "the main thing for us right now is to be here for Chris. He’s in good spirits."
The blood clot should be treatable with medication, but it requires at least six months of limited physical activity. That will keep Bosh on the mend for a while, though it’s good doctors found the clot before anything worse happened.
The news is particularly sensitive for the basketball community given the recent death of former Portland Trail Blazers star Jeremy Kersey, which was the result of a blood clot. Kersey was 52 years old.
MIAMI, February 21 - The Miami HEAT announced today that Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 Season, while being treated for blood clots on his lung.
Bosh, who is receiving care under the guidance of Miami HEAT team physicians at a Baptist Health System Hospital, is currently resting comfortably. Chris is OK and his prognosis is good.
