Kevin Durant out vs. Hornets, day-to-day with foot injury

The reigning league MVP has struggled with foot injuries all season long.

Kevin Durant will not play in the Thunder's Saturday night game against the Charlotte Hornets due to foot soreness, according to The Oklahoman's Anthony Slater. Durant hasn't been ruled out for Sunday night's game against the Denver Nuggets but his status is day-to-day. Newly acquired shooter Kyle Singler will start in his place.

Durant has missed half of the Thunder's 54 games following surgery to repair a Jones fracture on his right foot, after missing just a combined 14 regular season games in his first seven seasons in the league. A sprained ankle and a toe injury have also ailed him this season. Nothing suggests this latest setback is major, but foot injuries are tricky and the Thunder seem to prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to the health of their franchise star. Scott Brooks hasn't yet announced who will start on his stead until Durante returns.

So far this year Durant hasn't played at the level that earned him the MVP award last season but has still been a difference-maker for the Thunder, averaging 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in over 33 minutes a game. The Thunder are sitting in the last playoff spot in the Western Conference, half a game ahead of the Phoenix Suns.
