After falling to the fourth spot in the NBA draft following the lottery, the New York Knicks will explore trading the pick, reports Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Knicks open to trading their first-round pick, per report
The Knicks have more motivation to move the pick now that it landed outside the top three.
General manager Steve Mills told the Wall Street Journal’s Chris Herring that they “are going to be open to a lot of things” in terms of how they handle the pick. The Knicks have reportedly been open to trading the pick before, and with it landing lower in the final order now, they could be motivated to move it if the right opportunity presents itself.
By landing at fourth, the Knicks are likely out of the race to land one of the two premier big men in the class: Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor. If they were targeting one of them with their pick and are not interested in the players projected to be available, a trade for a veteran who can help them win in the short term is not a bad idea. Carmelo Anthony is 30 years old and the franchise might want to avoid another losing season.
Expect rumors to fly about the fourth overall pick until draft night on June 25.
