Dwight Howard will play Game 2 of the West finals despite sprained knee

Howard was questionable after suffering a knee injury but will suit up for the Rockets against the Warriors.

Dwight Howard will suit up for the Rockets in Game 2 of the Western conference finals against the the Warriors despite suffering from a left knee sprain in Game 1, according to the Rockets.

Howard suffered the injury in the first quarter of Game 1. Josh Smith tripped and rolled into Howard's knee, forcing him to leave the game. He returned for a while before exiting for good in the fourth quarter. He was considered questionable to play on Thursday but has been cleared and will start for the Rockets.

His presence boosts Houston's chances of getting a win in Oakland. Howard has been fantastic during the playoffs, averaging 16 points, 14 rebounds and over two blocks. The Rockets are already missing Donatas Motiejunas, so losing Howard would have left them very thin up front, forcing rookie Clint Capela into heavy minutes.

Howard was in and out of the lineup during the regular season with knee issues. Fortunately, those affected his right knee, so there’s no risk he will aggravate that injury by playing in Game 2.
