Parity has characterized the second round of the playoffs. No team has gotten a big lead early in the series and that obviously applies to the Atlanta Hawks vs. Washington Wizards and Memphis Grizzlies vs. Golden State Warriors. Washington won Game 1 decisively but couldn't take the second one in Atlanta, so now it needs a victory at home to hold on to homecourt advantage. The Grizzlies bounced back from a lopsided Game 1 loss to take the second matchup and will look to win their second in a row as they host the Warriors for the first time. The chance to take control of the series is at stake and no one wants to give an inch.
NBA playoff schedule 2015: Hawks visit Wizards, Grizzlies host Warriors
With the two series tied, Saturday’s game could be pivotal for the winner.
The Hawks have not been nearly as dominant as they were in the regular season but took advantage of John Wall's absence in Game 2 to tie the series up. Wall might not play on Game 3 so Atlanta has a prime opportunity to take back homecourt advantage after losing Game 1. The Wizards will need Bradley Beal to be more effective, especially if Wall doesn't suit up. Beal scored 20 points in Game 2 but needed 22 shots to get there. A better game from Nene -- who went 0-of-5 from the floor -- is to be expected, so Paul Millsap and Al Horford better be ready.
Out West, the Grizzlies got a masked Mike Conley back for Game 2 and looked like a completely different team. Tony Allen put the clamps on Klay Thompson, Zach Randolph bullied everyone inside and Memphis tied the series despite little help from its bench. It was an atypical game for the Splash Brothers, who only combined to give Golden State 32 points on 34 shots, but the Grizzlies earned the win at Roaracle. Now they'll have to validate their credentials as a serious threat to the Warriors with a victory at the Grindhouse.
