It was already evident George Karl was interested in rebuilding the 2013 Nuggets in Sacramento with rumors he wanted to trade DeMarcus Cousins for Ty Lawson, Kenneth Faried and Wilson Chandler. Apparently Karl is really committed to the idea of reuniting his old squad as the Kings are showing significant interest in free agent center -- and former Nugget -- JaVale McGee, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.
Kings reportedly have ‘strong interest’ in signing JaVale McGee
George Karl is really trying to get the band back together.

McGee played in 99 regular seasons games under Karl’s guidance in Denver. He had some success in limited minutes on those Denver teams and remains an intriguing combination of size and athleticism, even if he’s struggled to produce on a consistent basis. Despite joining the NBA in 2008, McGee is still just 27 years old. He played for Denver and Philadelphia last season, but only appeared in 12 games and played very limited minutes. After being bought out by the Sixers, he drew interest from several playoff teams. Ultimately, a player option for next season proved to be a sticking point and he sat out the remainder of the season instead of signing.
Now, McGee is a free agent and could be a solid fit in Sacramento. The Kings’ depth chart is very much in flux with Cousins trade rumors swirling and seemingly every other King on the trade block. Sacramento, however, could use some depth in the post with or without Cousins considering Reggie Evans played a lot of minutes behind Cousins last season. McGee would be an improvement at the backup center spot and would give the Kings another shot blocker, something they desperately lacked last season.
