Dwyane Wade has twice taken less money in recent years to give the Miami Heat a better chance to win championships. Now he wants his. Wade is seeking a max contract in free agency from Miami, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. Re-signing Wade now becomes Miami’s No. 1 objective after locking up Goran Dragic to the five-year, $90 million deal at the start of free agency.

The contract dispute between Wade and the Heat has been playing out publicly for more than a month, but all signs continue to point to his return to Miami. Wade opted out of the last year of his contract last week, a contract the Heat had reportedly hoped he’d stay locked into. Initial reports said the Heat had offered Wade less than $10 million annually in a long-term deal, but that was never going to cut it for the veteran shooting guard.

Wade is still one of the best shooting guards in the league when he’s healthy and engaged. He averaged 21.5 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds in 62 games last season.
