The Knicks, who struck out on many free agents this summer -- including DeAndre Jordan and Greg Monroe -- have started to make some headway in free agency. Along with Williams, they have signed Robin Lopez and Arron Afflalo to deals the past two days.
Williams, the second pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, hasn't been the star he was expected to be, but is a solid, athletic wing player who can give a team serviceable minutes. In 74 games with the Sacramento Kings last season, Williams averaged 8.3 points in just under 20 minutes per game. He shot 44.7 from the field, and 31.4 percent from the three-point line.
The Knicks are finally landing free agents, even if they aren’t can’t-miss guys. Williams is still young and has shown flashes of brilliance with his athleticism -- it makes sense, he was once the second pick in the draft. He’s not going to be a savior for the Knicks, but at least it’s someone to add to the roster this offseason.
