The Cleveland Cavaliers are weighing a trade for Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN. The Nets have been actively trying to deal Johnson as he enters the last season of a six-year, $124 million deal he signed in 2010.

Johnson is set to make more than $24 million next season, which would push a historically expensive luxury tax bill even higher for the Cavaliers. The main asset going back to Brooklyn would be the non-guaranteed deal of center Brendan Haywood, whose $10.5 contract can be waived before Aug. 1. Windhorst floats big man Anderson Varejao as another possible inclusion for Cleveland to help the salaries line up.
Johnson is 34 years old but is still a durable and productive player. The 6’7, 240-pound shooting guard averaged 14.4 points and 3.7 assists last season in 80 games for Brooklyn. He has spent the last three seasons on the Nets after being traded following seven years in Atlanta.
