Jeremy Lin announces he’s going to Hornets

Lin announced on Instagram that he’s heading to Charlotte.

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Free agent point guard Jeremy Lin announced on Instagram on Wednesday night that he'll be signing with the Charlotte Hornets. Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports the deal is for two years, $4 million-plus.

Lin's season in Los Angeles was the fourth team he'd played with in his five-year career. Lin played well, but he was never a fit to re-sign after the Lakers drafted D'Angelo Russell with the No. 2 overall selection -- especially after the emergence of Jordan Clarkson last season.

After a quiet season in Golden State, everyone knows Lin's emergence in New York as Linsanity. He signed with the Rockets and despite people loudly complaining that he was overpaid, he produced at a similar, if inconsistent, level. For his career, he's averaged 12 points on 44 percent shooting and 35 percent shooting on three-pointers, along with nearly five assists per game.

There were reports that the Mavericks were going after Lin to upgrade their dire point-guard situation after agreeing to deals with DeAndre Jordan and Wesley Matthews, but now it looks like Dallas won't get Lin or Jordan. Lin joins a Hornets team that's retooled significantly this summer, and he'll likely play both guard positions off the bench.
