East Coast blizzard causes Wizards-Jazz, 76ers-Celtics games to be postponed

The large snowstorm expected to devastate the East coast has already caused two postponements.

A pair of NBA games that were supposed to take place in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia on Saturday will be rescheduled due to the large snowstorm bearing down on the area, the league announced Friday. The Wizards’ home game against the Jazz and the 76ers’ home matchup against the Celtics will both be moved to new dates.

Celtics-76ers will be rescheduled for Jan. 24 at 7 p.m. ET while there’s no date set for when Jazz-Wizards will be played.

A blizzard warning is in effect in the mid-Atlantic region starting Friday as a huge winter storm approaches the area. It’s predicted to be one of the worst winter storms in years, with some projections putting the snowfall at around 30 inches.

The general public has been advised to take the necessary precautions and that driving is dangerous in the upcoming conditions. The postponement is therefore not a surprise. The city’s metro system has already been shut down.

The Jazz were scheduled to face the Nets in Brooklyn on Friday before making the trip to D.C. That Nets-Jazz game is still on, for now. The Knicks are scheduled to host the Clippers in New York. That area is projected to be affected by the storm, as well, but the games are still on.
