Jimmy Butler injures knee and shoots his free throws before leaving in wheelchair

Butler came down very awkwardly on a drive to the basket but stayed in the game long enough to shoot his free throws. He will have an MRI exam on Saturday in Minneapolis.

Jimmy Butler left the Chicago Bull's game on Thursday after taking contact on a drive to the basket and landing very uncomfortably on his right knee. He did not return to the game.

Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg after the game said Butler will have an MRI exam on Saturday in Minneapolis, with initial tests by doctors in Denver indicating only a sprain with his knee ligaments intact, per Nick Friedell of ESPN Chicago.

Butler stayed in the game only to shoot his two free throws while clearly being in pain before leaving the floor on a wheelchair. Here’s the play on which he was injured, with almost all of his weight landing on his leg at an awkward angle.

Butler has since emerged from the locker room smiling under his own power with a wrap on his knee, per CSN Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill. Here is video of Butler being taken to the locker room.
