Stephen Curry hits 400 threes in a season before anyone else could hit 300

As if you needed more proof of Curry’s shooting skill.

Stephen Curry just keeps taking his shooting brilliance to new heights. The Golden State Warriors guard became the first player in NBA history to hit 400 three-pointers in a single season during the team's season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.

Curry needed eight threes against Memphis to set the record and hit 10 in the game. For most players, this would’ve been a nearly impossible task, but Steph isn’t like other players. His unmatched three-point total this season makes that quite clear. No other player in league history has hit even 300 threes in a single season.

Nos. 400 and 401 for Curry came quickly in the third quarter:

The 28-year-old hit six threes in the first quarter Wednesday, then added four more afterwards to blow past the milestone. Overall, he shot 10-of-19 from three against the Grizzlies en route to his final tally of 402. Only five of his field goal attempts in the season finale were twos.

The record for threes in a single season was set by Curry last season with 286. He blew past that number earlier this season and now has set a mark that’s almost impossibly high. No other player in history has come even close to what the reigning MVP has done this season. He’s just out on an island of excellence:

Curry averaged five three-pointers per game on 45-percent shooting this season to set his historic mark. The Warriors, meanwhile, set a record of their own with 73 wins. The team’s 125-104 win over Memphis on Wednesday pushed it past the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls’ record of 72-10.
