The Charlotte Hornets won their first playoff game since 2002 when they beat the Miami Heat 96-80 on Saturday night. Another win on Monday would knot the best-of-seven series at 2-2 before it heads back to South Beach.
Heat vs. Hornets, NBA playoffs 2016: Time, TV schedule and live stream for Game 4
Charlotte won its first playoff game in 14 years on Saturday. Will history repeat itself on Monday?

Frank Kaminsky dropped 15 points in his first-ever playoff start and the Hornets held the Heat to just 34.2 percent shooting in a dominant win at Time Warner Cable Arena. With small forward Nicolas Batum out with a foot injury, the seven-foot Kaminsky stepped up to counter Miami’s dish-and-drive attack by clogging the paint and forcing bad shots. Now, Charlotte will hope to ride that home court advantage and its rookie’s hot hand to reset this first round matchup.
Miami will hope to get a bigger return from point guard Goran Dragic. Dragic signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the team last summer but so far has scored only 12.7 points per game in the postseason while making fewer than 43 percent of his shots. His counterpart, Kemba Walker, is leading the Hornets in scoring, but he’s been even more inefficient than Dragic along the way. Walker has missed an average of 13 shots per game while trying to will Charlotte to victory.
He’ll have help if Batum can return. The three-and-D stalwart has been upgraded from “out” to “questionable” for Monday night’s game. Having a 6’8 swingman to chase everyone from Dwyane Wade to Luol Deng around would give Charlotte a long-armed defender who can add a shooter’s touch to a team that’s made fewer than 25 percent of its shots from behind the arc this series.
Charlotte figured out a way to win without Batum on Saturday behind a balanced attack. Six different players scored in double figures as the Hornets ran away with a 16 point win. They’ll need a similar performance on Monday, especially if a hobbled Batum fails to provide a spark.
