Uh oh, Warriors

Good morning. We have that and more in Monday’s NBA newsletter.

Good morning. Let’s basketball.

PERFECT: The Thunder saw the Warriors’ Game 2 blowout win and raised Golden State with an even more fantastical annihilation in Game 3. OKC won 133-105, and it really wasn’t even that close. Kevin Durant had 33 in 32 minutes; Russell Westbrook had 30 and 12 in the same amount of action. Your boy Draymond Green had one of the worst games of his season, shooting 1-9 with more turnovers (4) than assists, just four rebounds in 32 minutes and one highly unfortunate kick to Steven Adams’ groin.

That kick resulted in a Flagrant-1 on review, and the Warriors sure seem mighty worried it will also result in a suspension. After all, just before the Warriors took the court the league announced a 1-game suspension for Dahntay Jones, who seemingly uppercut Bismack Biyombo below the belt in the waning moments of that series’ Game 3. Precedent is rarely so recent.

Tim Cato reports on the Warriors’ moment of reckoning live from Oklahoma City. I implore you to read that.

The Thunder are up 2-1. Game 4 is on Tuesday in OKC.

ICYMI: Paul Flannery’s Sunday Shootaround focused on how much the Warriors relish a challenge. That’s never been more relevant than now.

ON THE AIR TONIGHT: The Cavaliers and Raptors dive into Game 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN. Toronto is at home trying to even up the series. With a win, the Cavs have a chance to clinch at home on Wednesday.

IMPORTANT: How to dress like Russell Westbrook. Warning: it’s expensive.

WHERE I’M FROM: Harrison Barnes asked Marcus Thompson, a man who has covered Barnes and the Warriors closely for years, where he’s from. Barnes wanted backstory, tales, context. So Thompson took Barnes into East Oakland and gave him the backstory. The result for us? An absolutely phenomenal story.

THIS IS A DRAMATIZATION: How we’ll forever remember LeBron’s Game 3 flop.

BISMACK UPSIDE YOUR HEAD: Woj on how Bismack Biyombo saved the series for Toronto. Here’s Eric Koreen on the difficult decision the Raptors will face on Biyombo this summer.

FO FO FO: The New Yorker considers the four-point shot.

Happy Monday. See you next time.
