Good morning. Let’s basketball.
The Raptors wasted a perfectly good buzzer-beater
Good morning. We have that and more in Wednesday’s NBA newsletter.
WELPTORS: Would you be surprised to learn the Toronto Raptors lost another Game 1 at home? They might as well spot the opponents a game going forward. Kyle Lowry had an awful shooting night until he nailed a 50-footer at the buzzer to force overtime, but the Heat dominated overtime and survived a failed late inbounds attempt. (Deja vu!) Dwyane Wade sealed it with a steal and a layup. After the game, Kyle Lowry pulled a Kobe and stayed to shoot in an empty arena.
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING: The Warriors came from 17 down to beat the Blazers and take a 2-0 series lead. During their run, Draymond Green encouraged Terry Stotts to call a timeout. How helpful!
13 SECONDS OF CHAOS: The NBA announced that the referees missed five calls in the final 13 seconds of Thunder-Spurs. The refs’ official Twitter account noted that they’d never seen a player do what Dion Waiters did. Tim Cato has a piece on what the Thunder and Spurs said about the frantic finish. Rodger Sherman breaks out every bizarre moment of it.
SCORES GALORE ...
MIA 102, TOR 96 (OT), Heat lead 1-0
POR 99, GSW 110, Warriors lead 2-0
ON THE AIR TONIGHT ...
Hawks at Cavaliers, 8 p.m. ET, TNT, CLE leads 1-0
INSIDE THE CLIPPERS’ DEMISE: Howard Beck on the potential last days of Lob City.
FASCINATING: This Jay Caspian Kang piece on replay anxiety made me think. I don’t remember ever catching a case of this, mostly because I’m emotionally unstable, I would say.
LIAR’S GAME: Chris Herring with an interesting look at why players lie about their height. Kevin Durant’s quotes are funny.
REMEMBER THE TIME: Join Adonal Foyle on a trip back to a time when the Warriors were trash.
FOR COMEDIC EFFECT: The Kings are also interview Henry Bibby.
GOOD QUESTION: Why would the Pacers consider letting Frank Vogel go?
Happy Wednesday. See you next time.
