The 2016 NBA Draft will begin from the Barclays Center at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, and the Philadelphia 76ers are planning to select Ben Simmons to get the ball rolling on the night's festivities.
2016 NBA Draft order and schedule: 76ers to get ball rolling with No. 1 pick
The 76ers plan to open the 2016 NBA Draft by selecting LSU’s Ben Simmons.
Simmons was long viewed as the top selection in this draft, although Duke’s Brandon Ingram momentarily became the hot name to go No. 1. But in the weeks leading up to the draft, the momentum swung back toward Simmons, and it’s been reported that the Sixers have made a promise that the forward will go No. 1.
With Simmons going No. 1, that sets up Ingram to go No. 2 to the Los Angeles Lakers. There have been some rumors about the Lakers possibly looking elsewhere besides Ingram, but it'd be a major surprise if the lanky forward doesn't wind up in Los Angeles.
After Simmons and Ingram, this draft becomes much more of a mystery. The Boston Celtics hold the No. 3 pick, but it's long been rumored that they want to trade it. If they do hold on to it, they could go in a bunch of different ways. Expect plenty of movement in this draft as teams look to deal picks.
The draft will be televised on ESPN, but The Vertical will also be streaming a live draft show that’ll feature breaking news and analysis.
