Kevin Durant will host six teams on July 1 in New York as he considers his free agency, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Friday.
Kevin Durant has visits planned with the Warriors, Spurs, Thunder and 3 other teams
Durant’s free agency plans are shaping up this summer.
The teams are the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and his current team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder are still considered frontrunners to retain Durant's services, likely as a one-and-one contract (one guaranteed year at the max plus a player option) that will leave him eligible to take an even higher pay raise next summer when the increasing salary cap jumps again.
Durant’s primary criteria for his decision is winning a title, Wojnarowski says. Although other teams have interest in the free agent superstar, the six teams above appear to be the clear leaders for Durant’s services.
One agent says it’s even less than six teams that could land the superstar. One agent told Erik Horne of the Oklahoman that he expects Durant to be pried away from the Thunder only to a team that is ready to win and in a better market than Oklahoma City. “So Golden State and Miami become the only real players,” the agent told The Oklahoman. “It’s too hard to justify a move to Los Angeles [Lakers] or New York because they are not close to winning. Houston’s out.”
As Wojnarowski reports, Durant is expected to make his decision by July 9, when he leaves the country on a publicity tour. That leaves plenty of time for teams to make their pitches and Durant to weigh his decision.
