Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons together is absolutely terrifying

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are like the legendary Pokemon at the end of each game. They’re bigger, stronger, and more terrifying than everyone else. You try to catch them — like Kyle Kuzma did on this missed dunk on Embiid — but you can’t.

There are only one of each in every Pokemon universe, and that holds true of the faces of the Sixers’ franchise on Earth. These aren’t unicorns. They’re Mew and Mewtwo, or maybe something even greater.

The Lakers woke the beasts on their own home court at Staples Center in a 115-109 loss.

Embiid scored 46 points on 20 shots. He made 16 free throws, and, more impressively, got to the line 19 times. He grabbed 15 boards, threw seven (7!) assists, and blocked seven shots. He stands 7’3. He shouldn’t be able to all of that. Yet that stat line made NBA history.

Typically in the Pokemon games you can only catch one of the legendary monsters. You have to buy the sister game to get them both. Well, the Sixers got them both and it only costed them one Sam Hinkie.

The close to 7’ point guard Simmons had damn near a triple-double. He racked up 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. Yeah, and also five steals.

Those are just the hard facts. You haven’t even seen how everything came into fruition.

On paper they make no sense. How is someone of Simmons’ stature supposed to dribble the ball and lob to someone of equal size with a true point guard’s precision?

Here’s how:

The two always seemed to know where each other were on the court for the entire the game, even though they’ve only played all of 14 games together.

They worked in reverse, too. Embiid has eyes for Simmons’ cuts too.

Together they’re seemingly invincible, but even alone they’re impossible to matchup with.

It’s hard to believe Embiid has played 43 career games. That’s it. Yet he’s already beyond skilled in regards to any position player in the world, better yet a gigantic center.

He nailed two of the three three-point attempts he took with an effortless stroke that Lonzo Ball may have wanted to take note of.

Unfair.

Even more terrifying, Embiid dribbled rebounds down the court as if he was the point guard too! His seven assists certainly disguised him as a PG, but if that doesn’t do it for you, how about his euro step.

Goodness. He got his 46 points as a point guard, small forward and center. A 7’3 chameleon of sorts.

Embiid’s numbers should have stole the show — and they did — but Simmons was right there with him. Embiid might have closed out the game, but Simmons had the real shot to remember, and it came in the form of a running hook.

I’m scared of the Philadelphia 76ers right now. I’m scared of the Philadelphia 76ers next year. I’m scared of the Philadelphia 76ers four years from now.

Will there be a way to stop them?
