The old adage goes “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it, you will land among the stars.”
NBA scores 2017: Draymond Green posted a triple-double with just 4 points
Green became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double with single-digit scoring.

Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green fell just six points shy of landing on the moon in his team’s 122-107 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. But in landing among the stars, Green posted 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals, becoming the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double without scoring at least 10 points, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
Green’s historic night was highlighted by 10 takeaways, most in a single game in franchise history. The Warriors power forward fell just a few points shy of joining Nate Thurmond, Alvin Robertson, David Robinson and Hakeem Olajuwon as the only players to record a quadruple-double.
But Golden State’s victory, while much due to Green’s production, featured all of its players.
Klay Thompson poured in 36 points on 8-of-15 shooting from downtown. Kevin Durant chimed in with 24 points on a cold 5-of-14 shooting night, while Andre Iguodala gave the Warriors a much needed bench boost with 22 points on an efficient 6-of-7 shooting from the field.
Together, Golden State powered past a Memphis team that had accounted for two of their eight losses on the season.
If things couldn’t get worse in New York, fans showered the court with chants of “We want Oakley” and “Free Charles Oakley” during the Knicks’ 131-123 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The scene was part of a bizarre string of events Carmelo Anthony categorized as a “cloud hanging over” the organization.
Knicks owner James Dolan permanently banned Oakley, a 10-year player and one-time All-Star in New York, on Friday after New York Police Department officers arrested the former Knick after an altercation with Madison Square Garden officials. He was later charged with three counts of misdemeanor assault.
This is of note because the Wizards and Pacers are somewhat equal teams, each having rebounded from rocky starts to fixed positions in the Eastern Conference standings.
Paul George led with 31 points on 12-of-23 shooting, but John Wall and Markieff Morris combined for 52 points, including Morris’ physics-defying dunk that bounced off the top of the backboard and into the bucket.
Miami’s rattled off 13 straight wins
Somehow, the Heat have gone from way, way below .500 to within arms reach of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Miami’s Friday win over Brooklyn marked the team’s 13th consecutive win, and their wins haven’t been solely against bottom-dwelling squads.
The Heat have beaten the Nets three times during their streak but have also picked up W’s over quality teams like Golden State, Houston and Atlanta. And Miami could extend their winning streak to 14 games on Saturday if the team finds their legs in the second game of a back-to-back against Philadelphia.
This awkward exchange happened
Normally NBA social media teams dish out venom toward one another, but on Friday, in a narrow Kings victory over the Hawks, well, the opposite happened. The Sacramento and Atlanta Twitter accounts took turns heaping praise on one another.
Friday’s top performances
Anthony Davis: 42 points (16-of-22 shooting), 13 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block
The Pelicans needed all 42 of Davis’ points to pull away with a win over the Timberwolves on Saturday.
Nikola Jokic: 40 points (74-percent shooting)
The Knicks had no answer for Jokic, who rattled off bucket after bucket in a Nuggets win over New York. Denver’s big man solely reduced the Knick defense to rubble.
Giannis Antetokounmpo: 41 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 blocks, 2 steals
A career night for the Greek Freak came up empty as the Bucks lost their first of likely many after Jabari Parker’s torn ACL.
Draymond Green: 12 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals, 5 blocks
A historical night for Green, who became the first player in NBA history to record a triple-double without scoring 10 points.
James Johnson: 26 points (11-of-17 shooting), 8 rebounds, 3 blocks
James Johnson doesn’t always get buckets, but when he does....well, you don’t expect it. And Miami’s win streak extended to 13 as a result.
John Wall: 26 points (7-of-16 shooting), 14 assists, 2 steals
Wall’s Wizards have won nine of their last 10 games and catapulted up to the Eastern Conference’s third seed. His play has much to do with it.
