The New York Knicks waived Brandon Jennings on Monday to sign Chasson Randle, another point guard who was recently released by the Philadelphia 76ers. The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the news on Monday.
Wizards sign Brandon Jennings after Knicks waive him
Instead, New York signs Chasson Randle after he was cut by Philadelphia.

Jennings was snatched up on the open market almost immediately by the Washington Wizards, who will reportedly be paying him $1.2 million the rest of the season.
Jennings played 58 games for New York this year, averaging 8.6 points and 4.9 assists on 38 percent shooting. He’s 27 years old and has little upside for New York, which is a firm four games out of the eighth seed and very unlikely to catch up, so it makes sense for New York to opt for a younger prospect. For Washington, he’s a more experienced option than Trey Burke, who has been the team’s backup to John Wall all season.
Earlier this year, the 76ers had given Randle a three-year partially guaranteed contract after impressing them on two 10-day contracts. In order to complete the Nerlens Noel trade, though, the 76ers were forced to waive Randle. The 24-year-old only appeared in eight games with Philadelphia, but he showed enough for New York to give him a shot.
On Saturday, it first appeared that Randle was headed back to the Knicks’ D-League team. Instead, New York chose to waive Jennings and sign Randle to a contract with the actual NBA team instead.
