Joel Embiid remains out indefinitely with swelling in his left knee and will undergo another MRI, the 76ers announced at Monday’s practice. Embiid has only played one game since Jan. 20 and has missed 13 straight games in Philadelphia.
Joel Embiid’s knee injury remains swollen, will require another MRI
Embiid still doesn’t seem close to returning for Philadelphia.

Embiid’s injury to the knee was a very minor meniscus tear, as well as a bone bruise.
After playing 22 minutes on Jan. 20 against Portland, Embiid had an MRI on his knee which revealed swelling. The 76ers had him sit out for a week, missing three games, but he was back in the lineup on Jan. 27 playing 28 minutes against Houston. Embiid hasn’t played since, and expressed dissatisfaction with how his injury has been handled.
“I was told that I was going to kind of miss two or three weeks,” Embiid told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “So I wasn’t happy with the way it was handled. I thought keeping my name out there was going to literally have people think about me all the time instead of saying when I was going to come back.”
March 3 was previously mentioned as Embiid’s targeted return date, which he could still be on track for.
Philadelphia recently announced that Ben Simmons will miss the rest of the season after his Jones fracture hadn’t healed completely. It doesn’t help Embiid is missing more time, too.
When he has played, Embiid has been everything Philadelphia had hoped, averaging 20 points and nearly eight rebounds in just 31 games so far this year.
