LeBron James injures back after being elbowed by David Lee

James stayed down for a while in a blowout against the Spurs.

LeBron James stayed down for a good minute and subbed out of the game after taking a vicious elbow from David Lee to his back. He hasn’t returned to the game, although there’s little reason to do that in a San Antonio blowout.

The loss will sink Cleveland into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, with the Boston Celtics finally sneaking ahead of them. If James is injured going forward — and even if he isn’t — given the way the Cavaliers have played in March, it’s safe to say they probably won’t retake that spot without Boston falling off dramatically.

While James has gone basically his entire career avoiding major injury, he has had recurring back injuries for much of the past decade. His back was the main reason for his two-week midseason sabbatical in the 2014-15 season, and James noted headed into the 2016 playoffs that it was the first time his back had been healthy in “half a decade.”

One Cavaliers beat reporter said that the team trainer was looking at James’ neck.

James has played incredible basketball since the All-Star break, but making sure he’s healthy headed into the postseason has to be the top priority for Cleveland.
