Dirk Nowitzki took the clipboard from Rick Carlisle to draw up a play himself

He was so animated about it, too!

Dirk Nowitzki didn’t finish Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, getting shut down in the second half due to soreness in an Achilles that has bothered him for much of this season. He did, however, make sure that he was still making positive plays for the Mavericks on their way to a 109-105 victory.

During a timeout in the fourth quarter, an animated Nowitzki grabbed the clipboard from head coach Rick Carlisle and manned the dry-erase marker himself. Nowitzki has been in the league 19 years and recently became the sixth player to score 30,000 points — I’d listen to him, after all.

Seriously, look how excited he got!

Nowitzki probably isn’t going to become a head coach in the future. But man, does he look the part early on.
