NBA commissioner Adam Silver said on Friday that Charlotte could host the 2019 All-Star Game after repealing HB2 and replacing it with a compromise bill. The bill caused the NBA to pull the 2017 All-Star Game from Charlotte earlier this season, holding the weekend in New Orleans instead.

HB2, also known as the Bathroom Bill, limited anti-discriminatory protections for LGBTQ people and required them to use bathrooms that corresponded with their sex at birth. The NCAA and other organizations also pulled events from North Carolina in response to the law.

Silver had said from the start that he hoped to bring another All-Star Game to Charlotte in the near future, pending the reversal of the HB2 bill. On Friday, it looks even more likely that the NBA could send the game back to Charlotte. The location of the 2018 All-Star Game has already been chosen as Los Angeles.

Silver did say that it was “not an easy decision” and also “not a done deal,” but it is expected that Charlotte will get the game if assurances about discriminatory are met.

As Outsports points out, however, the compromise bill is not a complete reversal of the anti-discriminatory policies put in place by the original bill.
