The Raptors lost Game 1 of their second-round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night. Even though they beat the Bucks in the first round, they lost the first game of that series too! In all, the Raptors have now lost 11 Game 1s in a row, dating all the way back to 2001. Back when Vince Carter, Charles Oakley, and Dell Curry were still on the team. You want to remember what else was going on the last time the Raptors won the first game of a playoff series?
The Raptors haven’t won the first game of a playoff series since 2001
Here are 9 things that happened in 2001 to remind you how long it has been.
- The first Harry Potter movie was released, Harry And The Sorcerer’s Stone. It did a whopping $974.8 million at the box office.
- The first ever iPod was released! It had a click wheel.
- Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule released, “I’m Real.” One of the greatest songs of all time.
4. The West Wing won an Emmy for outstanding drama series.
5. The very first The Fast and the Furious movie was released. RIP Paul Walker.
6. Tiger Woods won The Masters and thus the Tiger Slam was created after he won four straight majors.
7. Michael Jordan would return to the Wizards later that year. So weird.
8. The Ravens won the Super Bowl, defeating the Giants, 34-7. Aerosmith featuring *NSYNC, Britney Spears, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige was the halftime show.
9. Speaking of Justin and Britney, they also wore this that year. Yes if you’re too young to know, at one time Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears dated.
So, Toronto, it’s been a while since the Raptors have won the first game of a playoff series. If they can somehow get past the Cavs in the second round of the 2017 playoffs, maybe they can try and break this streak in the Eastern Conference Finals. Or maybe it will just have to wait until next year.
