NBA playoff scores 2017: Ugh, Warriors are too good

The Warriors are now 10-0 in the playoffs.

The Golden State Warriors defeated the San Antonio Spurs 136-100 in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. This game was sadly over before it even started, though. It’s hard enough to beat the Warriors, but add in the fact the Spurs are missing Kawhi Leonard, and it was done. Take that back — the Spurs are missing Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker.

But does it even matter? The Warriors are just unbelievably good. They’ve now won 10 straight games in the playoffs and a sweep of the Conference Finals is looking more possible than ever.

Here is what is scary about the Warriors — they have so many players capable of beating you on any given night. In their 36-point blowout of the Spurs in Game 2, only one player scored more than 20 points, and that was Stephen Curry, who finished with 29. Eleven players scored in double-figures and every single player on the roster scored at least two points. Part of that is because the game was out of hand for the entire final three quarters, but that’s the vicious cycle you play with the Warriors.

There isn’t a lot of hope moving forward for this series or the Spurs.

Instead, we begin Game 3 with the Spurs needing four wins in five games against a team on the best three-year run in NBA history. (No team has ever won 207 total games in three consecutive seasons like Golden State has.) If they were tied at one game each with two at home coming up, we would all be glued to the television set during Games 3 and 4, even if Golden State ended up taking them both. Now, even with Kawhi Leonard returning, there’s a sense that it might not matter.

Even if Leonard returns in Game 3, as it seems like he will but has been far from confirmed, there’s no guarantee he’s 100 percent. The problems with ankle injuries is that they nag and they’re easy to re-aggravate. Leonard starting Game 3 on Saturday after a solid three days of rest would be a relief for San Antonio, but it’s no guarantee that the shellacking they were laying on the Warriors in Game 1 will return.

The good news? Game 3 isn’t until Saturday, and that gives Leonard some extra time to try and heal his ankle. But the Warriors are still the Warriors. It probably doesn’t matter at this point.
