Can the Warriors go 16-0?

In the wake of Game 1 of the 2017 NBA Finals, we wondered what would happen if the Warriors’ biggest weakness — turnovers — became a problem. Would the Cavaliers have a shot at beating them in Golden State then?

Game 2 provided the answer, and friends, that answer is a resounding no. The Warriors won 132-113 despite 20 turnovers. Seriously, scoring 132 points with throwing away the ball 20 times is pretty incredible. With how the Warriors shot on Sunday, they could have had 150 easy with a more careful attack, especially from Stephen Curry (eight turnovers).

In many ways this felt like Cleveland’s best punch: LeBron was unstoppable in the first half going to the rim, Kevin Love put up numbers, the Cavalier role players did better. The Cavs only trailed by three at halftime. But the Warriors just kept pushing and pushing and eventually broke through and broke Cleveland’s spirit.

Will it be different in Cleveland? It’s very hard to imagine a LeBron-led team being swept. But if any opponent is going to do it, it’d be these Warriors. Golden State is going to be trying to end this early, and the star Warriors who were around last year badly want revenge. The opening minutes of Game 3 (Wednesday, 9 p.m. ET, ABC) might tell us whether the Warriors can sweep and become the first team to go undefeated in the playoffs in the modern era.

This series has three former NBA MVPs. They were all incredible in Game 2. Steph and LeBron each had a triple-double — LeBron actually tied Magic Johnson for the record for NBA Finals triple-doubles with his eighth. But there was just nothing he could do to stop the Warriors.

As the Warriors were wringing life from the game late, Curry torched LeBron and celebrated in his face. But upon closer review, Curry totally double-dribbled, which caused LeBron to jump out at Steph and gave him the lane. LeBron is absolved! Curry should actually be forced to retract his celebration.

Media availability was salty as heck. LeBron got snippy with a reporter over a question he didn’t like, and Draymond Green took great offense to a question about how he’s been able to control himself.

As LeBron left the court after the game, a fight broke out among Warriors fans. “It’s my turn to yell something pithy for a viral video,” one yelled to the other.

Mike Prada suggested that if the Cavaliers got in trouble on offense, they should chuck the ball out of bounds. They actually appeared to do this once and still got beat on a fast break.
