Free agent sharpshooter J.J. Redick has agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal is worth $23 million.

Redick left the Los Angeles Clippers after the team failed to advance past the second round of the playoffs for his fourth year there. The 33-year-old shooter averaged 15 points on 43 percent three-point shooting to help power the Clippers to the West’s fourth seed.
Redick joins a budding 76ers team that has benefitted from solid draft picks in recent years.
Philadelphia is powered by sophomore center Joel Embiid, who nearly won Rookie of the Year despite playing in only 31 games last season. Their core is strengthened by rookie forward Ben Simmons, who did not play a game last season due to a foot injury, and the 76ers traded up to select point guard Markelle Fultz in this year’s draft.
Along with youngsters Dario Saric and Robert Covington, Redick becomes the elder statesman of a potential Eastern Conference powerhouse in the making. With a cast full of playmakers, Philadelphia desperately needed outside shooting to space the floor.
In Redick, the 76ers address their primary concern for the summer and move toward their first playoff appearance since 2012.
