6 things we learned from LeBron James’ and Steph Curry’s 2018 All-Star draft

The 2018 NBA All-Star teams were drafted by LeBron James and Steph Curry, so it’s absolutely time to freak out, overreact, and think way too deeply about their selections. If you missed the lineups, here they are:

Team LeBron starters: Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins

Team LeBron bench: Russell Westbrook, Kristaps Porzingis, LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love, John Wall, Victor Oladipo, Bradley Beal

Team Steph starters: Steph Curry, James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid

Team Steph bench: Klay Thompson, Al Horford, Draymond Green, Jimmy Butler, Damian Lillard, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyle Lowry

Here are the big takeaways:

James and Irving had a bad breakup from the Cavaliers. We know this by now.

Irving wanted out, wanted his own spotlight, and wanted to win on his own. He didn’t talk things through with James, and it made for a very uncomfortable summer.

But James picked Irving on his team, so things seem to be cool now. That’s nice!

As far as drama goes, these two could star on a Shonda Rhimes show. They hate each other A LOT still, as evidenced by their most recent feud.

But James didn’t seem to think that would affect their play on his team. They did share the floor on last year’s All-Star team without war after all.

LeBron is starting the 7’0 Durant at small forward, and both seven-footers Davis and Cousins down low. If he really wants to give Irving a break, there’s a chance he could play point guard next to the 7’3 Porzingis.

Let’s get really wild for a second and look way too into James picking Cousins and Davis by the way... James to NOLA this summer?

The draft order hasn’t been announced, but it’s widely assumed Durant was the first-overall pick by James. After that though, Curry took his teammates, Thompson and Green. History says those three are pretty good together.

Westbrook was not happy that his teammate, Paul George, was not selected as an All-Star. He told the media that he didn’t like guys complaining until they got in, and Lillard took offense to that.

As reserves, these two should go head-to-head during the game.

We have to assume a lot of what went down because we weren’t able to watch the draft in real time. The NBA wanted to televise it, but in a statement to SB Nation, the National Basketball Players Association revealed that players couldn’t come to a consensus.

“The NBPA did not consult a single agent on the issue of a televised all-star draft. It was the absence of a consensus by prospective players likely to be affected that led to support for a reveal. Whether a decision to broadcast the draft will be made after this year’s game, that will be determined going forward.”

The good news is that James and Curry both hinted that next year, we might get our wish.
