The Cavaliers traded Derrick Rose to the Jazz in a three-team deal ahead of the deadline on Tuesday, but according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania, Utah is likely to buy out his contract. The Timberwolves are a likely landing spot for Rose should that happen, according to The New York Times’ Marc Stein. That would reunite Rose with old head coach Tom Thibodeau.
Derrick Rose could reunite with Tom Thibodeau in Minnesota after trade deadline ends, per report
Rose was traded to the Jazz on Thursday afternoon.

The three-team trade sent Iman Shumpert to the Kings, Rose and Jae Crowder to the Jazz, and George Hill and Rodney Hood to the Cavs. It was one of several Cavaliers trades as they blew up their roster in an effort to restore playoff hopes and retain LeBron James when he becomes a free agent this offseason.
Why would Rose join Wolves?
Signing Rose would make for a reunion between the former Bulls point guard and his then-coach Tom Thibodeau who has a reputation for bringing on former players. Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler are former Rose teammates who also played under Thibodeau.
The Wolves are also a really good team, sitting fourth overall in the West, and a mere game and a half behind the Spurs. They could overtake them, and if he wants to win, Minnesota is about as good a team as he’ll find. He’ll also be welcomed to a comfortable environment.
Rose nearly went to the Wolves in a trade involving Ricky Rubio last season at the deadline, but that trade fell apart last minute.
Will Rose help the Wolves though?
As nice as a reunion sounds, Rose hasn’t played at an NBA level for some time now. He’s averaging 10 points on just 44 percent shooting overall, and 25 percent from deep. He’s turning the ball over 1.8 times per game in 20 minutes on the floor, more than his average of 1.6 assists.
To put it frankly, he’s not a good player anymore, and the Wolves already have Jeff Teague and a thriving Tyus Jones. Rose won’t be useful on the court.
