Kyrie Irving underwent a procedure to repair a tension wire in his left knee, the Celtics announced on March 24. Two weeks later, it was reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that he’ll miss the remainder of the season.
Kyrie Irving to miss 3-to-6 weeks with knee injury, per Celtics
The playoffs start in three weeks.

That wire was originally placed as part of a surgical repair for the patella he fractured in the 2015 playoffs with the Cavs. They expected him to miss three-to-six weeks of play, and said that his knee is structurally sound, but something changed.
Irving has not played since March 11. His team has adjusted fine without him, but that won’t work in the postseason, especially since Gordon Hayward isn’t expected to return.
The Celtics appear to be a lock for second place in the Eastern Conference. The bottom of the conference is all separated by just a few games though, and Boston could see Washington, Indiana, Miami or Milwaukee in the first round of the playoffs. If the NBA season ended today, they’d play the Wizards.
This is all bad news for Celtics fans.
