DeMar DeRozan did it
We have that and more in Thursday’s NBA newsletter.

Nearly, you ask? Blake Griffin happened to hit a shot to tie the game shortly thereafter, sending it to overtime, where DeRozan led the Raptors to victory.
Toronto is now 47-17, which means they -- like Houston and Golden State -- are on pace for 60 wins. The last time we had three teams win at least 60 games was 2008-09 (Cleveland, L.A., and Boston). The Raptors have also opened up a 2.5-game lead on the Celtics for No. 1.
Go Raptors.

Kelly Oubre is the latest NBA player to open up about mental health. Kevin Love reacts to the positive reaction for his piece on mental health and commits to continuing to talk about it.
The Magic apparently kinda got screwed by a clock malfunction at the end of their 1-point loss to the Lakers. For some reason I don’t think Orlando will be protesting this one ...
Speaking of the Awful Eight: our heroes went a combined 1-3 on Wednesday, with the win coming in a duel between tank teams Chicago (the victor) and Memphis. The Grizzlies actually mounted a heroic comeback in that game, dang near losing themselves sole possession of the worst record in the league! It remains the Grizzlies (15 straight losses!) No. 1, Suns No. 2, and five freaking teams tied for No. 3.
Speaking of Memphis, JaMychal Green is fighting through the losses to have a solid second half.
Speaking of Memphis again, Penny Hardaway appears to be a top contender to coach the Memphis Tigers.
Speaking of NBA personalities you know and love potentially coaching college teams, Colorado State is reportedly considering high-profile alum Becky Hammon to coach its mens team. I actually think there’s a non-zero chance Hammon interviews for an NBA head coach position (Milwaukee, specifically) this summer.
Speaking of NBA personalities you know and ... well, you know, had you ever wondering what Reggie Theus was up to these days? Well friends, he’s up to this: getting fired by CSU Northridge, getting in a physical altercation with the athletic director, and filing battery complaints against said athletic director.
Kawhi Leonard speaks! He says he wants to finish his career as a Spur. Convincing.
SEV-EN-TEEN straight wins for the Rockets. Twelve of those (including each of the last seven) have come against teams in the playoff race. We have a huge showdown -- Houston at Toronto on Friday. A Finals preview??? I’m beside myself with glee.
Speaking of which, James Harden is leaving nothing to chance on this year’s MVP race.
The Clippers, Nuggets, and Jazz are now all essentially tied for the No. 8 playoff spot in the West. What a race!
Fun story on the relationship between Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr.
Thursday’s schedule includes Celtics-Timberwolves (the Ryan Gomes game!) at 8 p.m. ET and Spurs-Warriors at 10:30.
And finally: Dwyane Wade surprised the students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High with a visit and a chat. He’s a good dude.
Be excellent to each other.
