The Orlando Magic have fired coach Frank Vogel, reports ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Orlando went 54-110 in Vogel’s two seasons as head coach. The Magic finished with the fifth-worst record in the NBA this season.

The coaching carousel has begun in the NBA as Vogel is the second coach fired since the season ended Wednesday night.

Vogel was hired by the Magic in 2016 after being dismissed by the Indiana Pacers, where he had racked up a 205-144 record over five and a half seasons and led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals twice. Vogel was widely seen as a good hire for Orlando in the wake of Scott Skiles’ abrupt departure. Vogel’s renown comes on the defensive end.
Unfortunately, that never translated into success for the Magic, who haven’t made the NBA playoffs since Stan Van Gundy was fired and Dwight Howard was traded in 2012.
Jeff Weltman took over the front office last summer. His history with the Raptors could lead Toronto assistants Nick Nurse and Jerry Stackhouse — who just led the Raptors’ G League team to the finals — being top candidates.
