Russell Westbrook: Jazz fans say ‘a lot of disrespectful, vulgar things’

Westbrook had two heated exchanges with fans during and after the Thunder lost to the Jazz in Game 6. Then he blasted Utah fans during his post-game interview.

Russell Westbrook had some choice words for Jazz fans after he was asked about a two separate run-ins he had with fans during and after the Thunder were eliminated in Game 6 on Friday.

“I don’t confront fans, fans confront me,” Westbrook said during his post-game press conference. “Here in Utah, a lot of disrespectful, vulgar things are said to the players here with these fans, man. It’s truly disrespectful. Talk about your families, about your kids. It’s just disrespect to the game, and I think it’s something that needs to be brought up. I’m tired of just going out and playing and just letting the fans saying whatever the hell the want to say. I’m not with that, ‘cause if I was on the street, they wouldn’t just come up to me and say anything crazy like that, cause I don’t play that shit. So I just think its disrespectful, and they get the chance to do whatever they wanna do. It needs to be put to a stop, especially here in Utah.”

Damn, that’s a lot.

The first altercation was at halftime. A fan shouted something in Westbrook’s direction, and it looked like he responded, “back the f*** up.”

The second was after the game when Westbrook was exiting the court. On his way into the tunnel, he had an altercation with two fans who were standing near the court. It’s unclear what either of the fans said, but one extended his hand toward Westbrook, who swiped back and had some words in response. It’s unclear what Russ said back, but he clearly took exception to what he heard.

That fan must have said something pretty nasty for Russ to be that mad. Then again, anyone who was knocked out of the first round after averaging a triple-double alongside two all-star caliber players would probably have a short fuse, too.
