There have been rumors about a Space Jam sequel starring LeBron James for years. Now we know it’s actually going to happen.
‘Space Jam 2’ with LeBron James is actually happening
The film will begin shooting in the summer of 2019.

LeBron’s Space Jam sequel will be produced by Ryan Coogler (of Black Panther fame) and directed Terence Nance, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It will begin filming during the NBA offseason next summer.
The announcement of Space Jam 2 is the latest and greatest endeavor in James’ burgeoning Hollywood empire. James has produced numerous shows over the last year, including the docu-series Best Shot and his barbershop talk show The Shop.
James played a supporting role in the 2015 movie Trainwreck starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader. The announcement of the next Space Jam movie comes 22 years after the original film starring Michael Jordan and featuring a host of his NBA contemporaries, such as Larry Bird, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing.
James and business partner Maverick Carter have been discussing a Space Jam sequel for over five years, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst. He finally agreed to the project once Coogler was involved. James said this to the Hollywood Reporter:
“The Space Jam collaboration is so much more than just me and the Looney Tunes getting together and doing this movie,” says James, “It’s so much bigger. I’d just love for kids to understand how empowered they can feel and how empowered they can be if they don’t just give up on their dreams. And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people.”
Hollywood has already remade Jurassic Park and Jumanji, so why not Space Jam? With so much on his plate off the court, it’s a wonder how James will be able to focus on the Los Angeles Lakers next season.
