Jordan Poole broke Payton Pritchard’s ankles but spent so long celebrating he couldn’t score

So when we say the following play was bad, even for him, it’s saying something.

But as Poole continued his quest to cosmically torture Wizards fans in the most hilarious ways possible, he had a new lowlight in Washington’s 112-98 loss to the Celtics on Sunday. As caught by Bullets Forever’s own Greg Finberg, Poole paused for long enough to make fun of Payton Pritchard for getting crossed up that he didn’t have time to get his shot off after sending the Boston guard to the floor:

Poole is going to get made fun of a lot for this, but to play Devil’s Advocate: This may just show he’s been watching tape. After all, this is a man who just last season spent so long showboating about a stepback that he had his shot sent into the upper deck by Ausar Thompson. So at least this time he realized he had waited too long and passed!

The next step in his development will be just, you know, not celebrating a sick move for so long that he can’t score after said sick move. But hey, baby steps. And given how long the Wizards’ rebuild looks set to last for — and how unmovable the two years and approximately $65 million on his remaining deal after this season appears to be — it seems like he’ll have plenty of time to keep working on “not taunting your opponent so long that you can’t score” in about as low-stakes of basketball games as possible at the NBA level.
