How much will the Celtics fall off without Jaylen Brown?
Everyone has a take on the Jaylen Brown trade. I gave Boston a C+ in my initial trade grades, and was hit with major blowback from people saying "this is the most lopsided trade since Luka." We'll see!
I still think the Celtics are going to be very good if a few things go right. Jayson Tatum getting back to 95% of his pre-injury level is the biggest factor. Mitchell Robinson -- a great free agent signing -- staying healthy is another one. Paul George's health is critical, too. Of course, every other East contender has questions, too.
I think it's totally possible the Celtics could still be a top-3 team in the East next year. Who are you putting above them? The Knicks for sure ... but they won three fewer games than Boston last year even without Tatum for most of the year. Philly has Embiid's health issues looming over them. I could see the Raptors being very good. I want to see what Tyrese Haliburton looks like before I crown the Pacers. Cleveland .... idk.
I'm saying the Celtics win 50+ games next year. Their shot-profile will be better without Brown. They will take a ton of threes, grab even more offensive rebounds with Robinson on the roster now, and still have an awesome defense. This pains me because the Celtics are the one team I enjoy being a hater of, but Boston is going to be very, very good in my opinion.
How many East teams do you see ahead of the Celtics?
