Pittsburgh basketball coach Jamie Dixon has done wonders during his time there. His Panthers will enter the season at No. 4 in the country and Dixon’s single-minded focus has turned them into a perennial Big East power and NCAA team. Thankfully for victims of a car crash on Saturday, that focus didn’t keep Dixon from helping them escape from an overturned car.
Is There Anything Pitt’s Jamie Dixon Can’t Do?
The vehicle had flipped over while going on I-279 North near the McKnight Road exit in Pittsburgh and was on its side when Dixon, who was driving on the same highway, pulled over to help.
“[Dixon] assisted in removing at least one of the two occupants,” Pennsylvania state trooper Erik Fisher told ESPN.com on Sunday morning. “He sustained some injuries to his hands in assisting in getting them out through the windshield of the vehicle on the passenger side.”
Dixon was treated for a minor hand injury. Unfortunately the person responsible for the crash fled the scene, though I suppose the police will use Dixon’s crime-fighting skills for find him. He’s halfway there to being considered a superhero in Pittsburgh already.
